Enggar's Journey

First Week
These two days were a new experience for me because I never went abroad. I was so excited about my first flight experience going to the Philippines. On Saturday 3rd August 2019 I begin my journey. I went to the Philippines for joining SEA-Teacher Project at Ateneo De Naga University with my friend, Uphy. Although it would be our long flight journey, we enjoyed our journey. After Arriving in Naga city we were introduced some Philippines foods by Mam Jeannette. Thank you Mam, for the warm welcoming :).
On Saturday we were enjoying our breakfast (Street food vendor near Adi Soemarmo Airport) at 4.15 am before departure time (06.00 am) to Jakarta (CGK Airport).
I went to Fatahilah Museum in Jakarta while waiting for my next flight at 01.00 am because I wanted to meet my old friends (Aping, Ai and Fajrin) who were in Jakarta also. We spent our time enjoying Kota Tua view.

Finally, we arrived in Jakarta at 07.00 am. After that, we decided to go to Alifah hotel (near CGK airport) because our next flight to Manila was at 01.30 am on Sunday.
Mabuhay Manila :) Finally, I arrived at Naia Airport Manila (4th August, 07.00 am). I continued waiting for my next flight to Legazbi airport.
Philippines Food :)
After arriving at Legazpi Airport, we met mam Jeannette as the ADNU Sea-Teacher Coordinator who fetched us up to Naga City. she asked us to take our lunch at Jollibee, one of the most popular fast-food restaurant in the Philippines. Jollibee fried chicken was my first food in the Philippines. The taste was delicious, I thought it was same as fried chicken in Indonesia. What makes it different from Indonesian fried chicken was in the sauce.
Chicken Adobo is a popular Filipino dish that involves meat, seafood, or vegetables marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and black peppercorns. the taste is delicious when it is eaten with rice. I love the taste.
Pinangat na Isda, one of bicolano dish, made by a bland of taro leaves, chili, meat and coconut milk wrapped in gabi leaves and tied securely with coconut leaf.
The next snack is Puto, the taste is almost the same as our traditional food that is Putu. The difference is Puto used sweet coconut and Putu used red sugar, but overall the taste is delicious.
Monday in ATENEO De Naga University
For my first day in the Ateneo De Naga University, I and my friends (Uphy and Indah) had a campus tour agenda and meeting the President of ADNU. Because it was our second days in the Naga city Mam Luth as the dean of Education faculty fetch us up to the ADNU. In the Ateneo De Naga University, we met Ryan and some ambassadors students in the ADNU. We felt excited listening to the history of ATENEO explained by the ATENEO ambassadors students.

After meeting the President of Ateneo De Naga University, Ma’am Luth asked us to go to Coko Café for lunch together. My friends and I ordered Fish Teriyaki and Ice tea for our lunch and jelly coffee for the desserts. The taste was so delicious because all of us were hungry lol. After finishing our lunch, We continued to go to Traditional Market with Ryan for buying vegetables and rice. It was our first time to buy things in the Philippines. The traditional market in Naga city is different from the traditional market in our city. I did not find buyer bargaining with the seller while shopping. It was quite interesting for me to shopping in the traditional market. After that, we closed our agenda by taking a selfie with Ryan. Salamat po :)
Tuesday in ATENEO De Naga Junior High School
Today was the day that we have waited. Ma’am Jeannette fetched us up to go to ATENEO Junior HS. Uphy and I would teach in Junior High School major while Indah would teach elementary school. When we arrived at Ateneo junior HS, we got the information that today Ateneo Junior HS had INTRAMS 2019 for a week. It was an annual event. All of the students of junior HS participated in this event, so we went to the sport hall to watch Ateneo INTRAMS 2019. After I and Uphy enjoyed watching sport competition we met mam Lorena A. Hayalin or we called her “mam Lorie” in the faculty room. She gave us some information related to Ateneo Junior High School. After meeting mam Lorie we met sir Marcian, one of ATENEO Junior HS who participated in Sea-Teacher Batch 7 in Yogyakarta. He introduced us to some teachers in ATENEO Junior HS and gave us School tour. In the lunchtime, sir Marcian asked us to have lunch together in the Grade School Canteen. The canteen was big and tidy and there were many grade students who enjoyed their lunch. We were so happy with the atmosphere here because it was a new experience for us. AT 05.00 pm we went to our dormitory with some grade school teachers by Jipni, one of the public transportations in Naga city. My friends and I were taught how to ride Jipni from School to our dormitory, so the next day we could go to school by ourselves. I thought, riding Jipni was so fun because it was same as riding Odong-odong in my country.
Wednesday and Thursday enjoying ATENEO INTRAMS 2019 :)
Wednesday morning we went to school by ourselves used public transportations in Naga city. For the first time, we were confused and met difficulties because not all of the driver of public transportation could speak English. We used our body language to help the driver understood what we meant. We rode Trycyle and Jipni to go to school. Trycyle and jipni were public transportations used by Naga people when they went somewhere. After arriving in the school, we continued to watch ATENEO INTRAMS 2019. we watch the Assembly, basketball, soccer and badminton competition in the whole day until 04.00 pm. In the next day, that was Thursday, we had the same agenda that was watched Soccer competition, but for Thursday the INTRAMS finished at 12.00 pm because in the 3 pm there was INTRAMS party. After we had our lunch we decided to go to ATENEO main campus to buy some souvenirs that were a jacket, tote bag, and T-shirt. we were so excited about buying ATENEO souvenirs. after buying souvenirs, we went to our dormitory and took a rest. Today was a long day but we still enjoyed our stay in Naga City.
Finally Holiday :)
On Friday, I had a free schedule because the Ateneo students took a rest after participating in the INTRAMS 2019. I and my friend, Uphy, decided to go to the Traditional market to look for Ukay-Ukay (the second-hand clothes with the cheaper price). Unfortunately, we did not find a nice Ukay-Ukay for us, so we decided to go to SM (one of the malls in Naga city). We were so excited about entering the SM mall because we thought that we would buy clothes that we wanted. Unfortunately, we did not find clothes for Muslim so we decided to look around the SM mall. Before we went to our dormitory we bought Indomie (Indonesian Noodle) and some snack for us. On Saturday, we just spent our holiday by cleaning our dormitory and finishing our daily activities blog. in Saturday night we spent our night with preparing for Eid'l Adha :).
EID'L ADHA in the Philippines
Today was the big day for Muslim, That was Eid'l Adha, but this year I had to celebrate Eid'l Adha in difference Atmosphere. In the early morning, Ma'am Luth fetched me up to go to the Muslim community in Naga city. In the Muslim community, my friends and I celebrated Eid Adha. we were very happy because it was the first time we could pray in a Mosque in the Philippines. After we finished praying, a Muslim brother gave us breakfast. :) After praying with the Muslim community, ma'am luth fetched us up to have breakfast together. We ended our activities in Eid'l Adha day with having breakfast together in Jolibbee. Thank you, Ma'am :)
Second Week
The first day in my second week was a regular holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eid;l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice). Today I had invited to attend Sa Bagong Pag and, an Ignaciana Musical held by Ateneo Junior High School in Alingal SJ Building, Ateneo de Naga University Bagumbayan Campus. I went to Ignaciana Musical with my friends, Uphy and Indah. Ma'am Jeannette fetched us up at 13.00 pm. Because the Ignaciana Musical is started at 15.00 pm, Ma'am Jeanette asked us to try Halo-Halo, one of the popular desserts in the Philippines. The taste was so delicious and it was same as es campur in Indonesia. After we ate Halo-halo, we went to Naga Catedral to walk around and ma'am Jeanette told us some information related to Naga Catedral. Fortunately, the weather was sunny so we can enjoy the view of Catedral and took some photos.
The Ignaciana musical was started at 15.00 pm. When I saw the show, it was used the Tagalog language. Although I did not understand what they said in the musical I can felt the feeling of the musical. All of the students showed their best performance in the musical. It was a great show I have ever seen. It made me love all about ATENEO :) Thankyou ATENEO.
Observation Days
(August 13, 2019) Today was my first day to do observation in the class. For the observation, I asked mam Lorie as the chairperson of English Department to do observation in the different grade, not only grade that I will teach but also others because I want to know the different condition during English learning process. So for the result, mam Lorie gives me a schedule to do my observation in different grade and I had 4 class in total in different grades for my first day in observation. In the morning period, I had 3 sessions to do observation. First, in the class 7312 with Sir Marcian. The material that was taught by him was Pronoun. In the second session, I had 8324 with ma’am Trish to do observation. She taught about Part of an Essay. The last session in the morning was 10215 with ma’am Lorie. She taught about Persuasive writing. In the afternoon, I had one session in the class 9327 with mam kim and she taught about Beowulf’s boast literature. After I finished my observation, I can conclude that the teacher used student-centered when they taught in the class.
In the afternoon, after finishing observation, my friends and I went to the main campus of Ateneo De Naga University because mam Jeanette as the coordinator of sea-teacher asked us to join Seminar on Enhancing Teachers' Aptitude on Assessing Students' Academic Performance. The seminar spent 2 hours. We learnt a lot about how to assesses students in the right way to improve Learning quality. we felt excited during the seminar because the keynote speaker gave us clear explanation about assessment.
In the second days of my observation (August 14, 2019) The students attended Pagsungko ni Ina. it spent almost 2 hours and It was my first experience watching this event because, in Indonesia, I never saw this event. I felt lucky because I had this opportunity for knowing one of the annual events in Ateneo.
After watching Pagsungko ni Ina, I continued doing observation in my second days in the second week. I had 4 observation in total and for the second days, I just observed on the seven grade because in the next week I will teach seven grade so I want to focus on seven grade in my observation. In my observation today, I observed Ma'am sally class (7213), Sir Marcian class (7312), Mam Trish Class (7311) and the last class in the Sir Marcian class again (7311). In my observation today, all of the teachers reviewing the material about pronoun and in Sir Marcian class the students were given a quiz to know students understanding about the material because tomorrow there is a summative test for the students. So today, all of the teachers want to make sure that all of their students have to master the materials before they do their summative test.
In my third day, I do observation in ma'am Sally class (7314). Today 7314 will have a summative test about Pronoun. Before the summative test was begun, mam sally reviewed all of the material about the pronoun. after the students have reviewed the materials, mam sally began the summative test.
My Holiday
On Saturday I went to the SM mall with my friends (uphy and Indah). We wanted to buy shoes and other daily needs. We went to SM mall at 9.15 am by Tricycle (One of public transportation in Naga City). we were so excited because there was a lot of discount in the mall. at the end of our trip today we went to Jollibee to buy fried chicken and hamburger.
Saturday evening we were invited to attend Acquaintance Party at the Alingal Multipurpose Hall by Ma'am Luth, the dean of the college department in ATENEO De Naga University. We were so happy because we met all of the college education students there. They are friendly, kind and excited when meeting us. in the party we enjoyed the traditional dance of the Philippines, we also sang in the Party. We sang Bendera, a song sings by Coklat band. we sang that song because today is our Independence day, so we dedicated our performance for celebrating Indonesia Independence Day. Thank you Ateneo we enjoyed the party.
Third Week
(Practicum Day)
Monday
Tuesday
Today was my first day doing my practicum in the class. In the morning before the bell ringing, ma'am sally as my cooperating teacher assigned me to do my practicum at 2 classes, those were 7211 and 7213, but for today I just had to teach 7211 class because in the 713 class ma'am sally would give summative test for the last lesson about the pronoun. today, the material that I would teach was about Present Simple Tense. I felt excited when I taught them because it was my first time teaching in a foreign country. After finishing my practicum, ma'am sally gave me some feedback about my performance. Thankyou ma'am sally for the feedback :).
In my practicum days, Both teacher and students cannot use handphone in the class. Although I cannot take some pictures of the activities in the class, I get the positive side of this rule. It can make teacher and students focus on the learning process.
In my second day doing my practicum, I prepare the material and exercise for my students. Today, I taught both 7211 and 7213. I applied the feedback given to me by ma'am sally yesterday while I taught them. They were very excited in the learning process because I used board game race in my teaching. but unfortunately, because the time was limited just 55 minutes each period, I could not give them feedback for their performance in the board race game. After finishing my practicum, ma'am sally gave me feedback for the game. After getting feedback I modified the game for the next meeting so I could manage 55 minutes.
Wednesday
Today was the national holiday in the Philippines, so I had free class today. I spent my morning day preparing the next material about Past simple tense. After finishing the material, I decided to go to SM mall and Win-win Mall (the popular mall in the Naga city). I went to SM mall and Win-win mall with my friends (Uphy and Indah). We wanted to buy Philippines souvenirs for our family. We were so happy when we looked at the price because the price was cheaper than in Indonesia, so I decided to buy a bag for my mother. In the afternoon, we went to Jollibee (a popular fast food restaurant in Naga city), because we could not eat pork so we ordered fried chicken. The taste was very delicious because it was almost same as fried chicken in Indonesia.
Thursday
In my third day doing a practicum, I started teaching Past simple. I used a different method in my teaching. I used Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). I made some interactions with the students by asking them the question and they answered the question with the reason for choosing the answer. I also gave some example of using the students' name so they could more understand how to use the present and past simple. In the homeroom time, ma'am sally gave feedback about the way I taught and I got positive feedback and also some suggestions for the next meeting.
Friday
My practicum today, I just reviewed the past material about the present and past simple. After I was sure that all of my students had remembered the materials, I gave them exercises and quiz to measure their understanding related to the material. In the afternoon, ma'am sally gave me some suggestion and informed me about my final demo. In the last practicum this week, I learnt a lot from ma'am sally feedback and her suggestion about my teaching in the class. I also learnt about class management and some strategies for teaching English. Salamat (Thank you) ma'am sally for the suggestion and feedback :).

My Holiday
This Saturday afternoon, I had a city tour at Naga City. Ma'am Luth as the dean of college education accompanied me and my friends during the city tour. I also met Faye, the tour guide for the city tour. We started the city tour at 2.30 pm by riding a tricycle (Public transportation at Naga city). The first place visited by us was Museo ni Jesse Robredo. in this museum, we learned the story of the Jesse Robredo, mayor of Naga city who had a big contribution for Naga city. We continued to Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Penafrancia. during the city tour, Faye as the tour guide explained everything about this church. The church is huge and beautiful. We enjoyed the view and the history of the church. In the evening we had dinner with the mayor of Naga city. we were so excited waiting dinner time. while waiting for the dinner we went to Zeach Bar-Pili, Naga, Camarines Sur(the popular place in naga city). It was a beautiful place with mountain background and there were 2 huge lakes. There were some tourists who did water sport. I thought it would be fun but when we saw the tourist doing the water sport it was so scary. so we decided to enjoy the view of this place. in the evening we bought traditional food of naga city and continued with dinner with the mayor. Unfortunately, when we waited for him our tour guide, Faye, told us that the mayor could not join us in the dinner because he was busy. We felt so sad could not meet the mayor but we wanted to thank for treating us delicious dinner this evening.
Final Week :)
Cultural Trip
Monday early morning I went to Legazpi for a cultural trip. I went to Legazpi with Ma'am Luth as the dean of Education college, Ma'am Jeanette as the Sea-Teacher coordinator and some teacher from Ateneo De Naga University. We went to see Mayon mountain and some tourism places near Mayon mountain. We were so excited about seeing the Mayon mountain because it is one of the volcano mountains that has the perfect shape. After enjoying the view of Mayon mountain we continued to go to some churches in Legazpi. There were many churces that have unique architecture. The churches were so beautiful and we also learn the history of the churches. in the afternoon, before going back to Naga city, we tried Chili ice cream. the taste was spicy. There were 5 levels and I chose level 1 with mango flavor. All of us enjoying ate this chili ice cream at the end of our cultural trip and it was a precious experience because I could explore the Philippines.
The last week of Teaching
On Tuesday, I do not have classes because there is news of bad weather from the mayor.
Wednesday I have two classes for doing my practicum. Today also the last time doing my practicum because tomorrow is my final demo. today I prepare all of the material and input the students score during my practicum. in my last day doing my practicum I feel that all of the students are more excited because at the end of my class I have time for question session with my students about Indonesia. All of them give me any question about Indonesia. They are excited about the culture, the food, and tourism places in Indonesia. in the end of the question session, we take photo group and we close the class with enjoying Indonesian snack.
Final Demo Day
In the Final demo, my cooperating teacher asks me to teach Future Simple Tense and gives the summative test to the students. during my final demo, I enjoyed the teaching because most students feel excited answering the question when I give them some questions. After finishing my final demo, ma'am sally as my cooperating teacher gives me some feedback about my performance, and she asked me to teach on Friday for finishing the material.
On Friday, I just have one class (LG 7213). after finishing my practicum my cooperating teacher asked me and my friend (Uphy) for having dinner together. We have dinner with some teachers from the English department. it is a farewell party for me because on Sunday I will back to Indonesia. Thankyou Ateneo De Naga JHS.
